Carola Sneekes & Jannis Drewell. Congratulations, you two are the favorites of the VaultingNews readers!
The first poll of our end of the year voting is over & we are surprised (and greateful) for the way our followers engaged and participated on it. It was a very interesting result. You guys seem to like the women better than the men, there were 16.653 votes casted for the females but just 1.075 for the men.
What was more interesting about this poll was that the Dutch fanbase voted their hearts out. In the end the competition was between Carola Sneekes and Claire de Ridder, which is pretty cool because it shows how the vaulting community can engage towards one goal.
The winner was Carola, who qualified for all three competitions at the Europeans: she competed as individual, with her sister as pas-de-deux and in the Dutch team. It was a great year for her.
Jannis Drewell from Germany won the Europeans in Aachen this year. But some of us really didn’t see that coming, his first victory ever in a big international vaulting competition was in 2015. He did a great season though, and ruled over the competition of vaulter of the year.
Our part was to create a shortlist of the nominations. Unfortunately we had to choose between many great vaulters who could have been part of the poll. It was a really hard decision for us & kept us discussing till the last day. On the other hand this kind of voting is never objective, we can’t influence the number of voters from every country and we restricted the number of votes to one per person through cookies. But we can’t control if participants follow the rules or not. So, the whole voting is just for fun and only for the VaultingNews statistic, not an official thing. Nevertheless we learnt a lot and will repeat it in the coming years.
Thank you so much for participating. It was a great first week for us.
