I am not gonna lie and say that I understand whe frenesi Europeans have around this movie, here in Brazil I really don’t remember it being such a big deal. Yes, it is kind of a good movie, but the only reason I watched it as a kid was because Wildegg used it as their freestyle theme, and at the time I would copy everything Wildegg did, because I was cool like that.
We start our super duper Halloween costume party by going back to a few vaulters who chose to use the same movie as inspiration for their performances: “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer“.
We have not one, but three freestyles inspired by this movie, based on the book written by Patrick Süßkind, that tells the story of a man who has a super ability to scent stuff and ends up becoming a killer.
1- The original Perfume freestyle: RC-Wildegg (Austria) 2007
For a long time I would pretty much watch this everyday, and I have no fear admitting it.
It happened just one year after the WEGs in Aachen, 2006, and Wildegg was pretty much the best thing the vaulting world had at the time. I also find it relevant to add that this was their best result up to now. And you can still see similarities between this team and what we see from the Austrians today.
2- The PDD version – Kristina Boe and Malte Möller (Germany) 2014
Well, this is pretty much what it promises to be: A PDD version of Perfume. It’s always nice to watch Kristina and, not without reason, this is not the only time we’ll meet her this week.
3- The individual version: Daniel Kaiser (Germany) 2015
My coach used to tell us that it doesn’t really matter if someone has the same music you do, what really matters is what you do with the music you choose.
Well, this year Daniel chose a theme that cannot be considered new, but the German vaulter did pretty well and it did take him very far. Daniel had a pretty good season. And he performs to Perfume with perfection and so much expression.
